Opera was first started in the late 16th century in Italy, which was soon spread to the whole of Europe. Then it went to the United States and to Australia mainly through Britain and Spain. Not everyone enjoys an opera. For those people who enjoy opera enjoys it very much. There is some class and sophistication about an opera. Conceiving an opera is not an easy task and we have quite a few renowned opera writers, whose names are written in golden letters. Who can forget Mozart?
Operas soon became non-dependant on the stages. They went to radio and television. Sure, radio didn't want the heavy, colourful costumes. There are also operas that don't tell a word. The richness of opera as a stage art knows no similarities. May be the Kathakali, an art form performed in India have the same richness of costumes, music and drama.
The earliest history of an opera can be traced back to the wedding of the son of a Duke in 1959. The grand occasion of wedding included a musical drama among the festivities. Soon, there are operas of various types – Russian, French, German, English operas were there, although there was a domination of Italian opera throughout the Europe, with exception of France.
Some people can't just wait for the opera season to begin. They enjoy the heavy music, not powered by electricity, taking them to a different plane. The story or drama depicted in the opera is delivered in quite a convincing fashion by the actors, who also are the singers. They make their sound reach the farthest row of the audience and they make sure the drama and emotional expressions are not lost in the way. Mostly operas end in a matter of 90 minutes. Sometimes it can go up to four hours. Being able to perform for that much time takes its toil on the performers and not everyone is up to that.
The next time you look to enjoy an opera, make sure you take somebody your care about with you. Tell him/her the story beforehand and make sure you both enjoy the show. This is one amazing thing, as you will find it more rewarding enjoying an opera with somebody you like.
